Muon Antartic Telescope Network
Solar activity exerts a deep influence on the near-Earth environment, affecting magnetospheric dynamics, ionospheric stability, and the reliability of critical technological infrastructures in space and on the ground. One of the most significant indicators of these interactions is the atmospheric muon flux in the cosmic ray cascades. Muon Antarctic Telescope (MAT) is a muon detector, devoted to continuous observation with directional and spectral sensitivity, operating in the polar regions. MAT takes advantage of the minimal geomagnetic cutoff rigidity to probe the low-energy regime of Galactic, as well as Solar, Cosmic Rays. The first unit of MAT was successful installed at Concordia Station. We plan to install several units of MAT in different Antarctic sites with the perspectives to build a distributed polar network to provide new and complementary insights into solar activity and its effects.
